Meet Jaymi Sterling

Jaymi Sterling is a career prosecutor dedicated to keeping our community safe. With over 17 years of prosecutorial experience, and an impeccable record of integrity, she worked her way up to become Deputy State’s Attorney and Chief of Staff for the St. Mary’s County State’s Attorney’s Office.  In 2022, the people of St. Mary’s County voted Jaymi as our State’s Attorney with an overwhelming 70% of the vote, creating a much needed change in the State’s Attorney’s Office for the first time in over two decades.

She has never shied away from making the tough but ethical and fair calls. Jaymi has dedicated her career to public service, passionately fighting for crime victims and volunteering throughout her community. She has successfully advocated for stiffer penalties for repeat drunk drivers and convicted sex offenders.

Jaymi currently serves as the 22nd State’s Attorney for St. Mary’s County.  She is the first woman to ever hold the post. Prior to serving as the County’s chief law enforcement officer, Jaymi prosecuted violent crimes and serious drug cases involving the deadly opioid epidemic with the Anne Arundel County State’s Attorney’s Office. She has served as a Special Assistant United States Attorney and is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court.

Jaymi was recently awarded The Daily Record and The Maryland State Bar Association’s Leaders in the Law Award and named to The Daily Record’s Top 100 Women, recognizing her for her impact in Maryland through leadership and community service. She proudly serves as the Vice-President for the St. Mary’s Shop with a Cop, a non-profit organization focused on enriching the lives of children in our community.

Jaymi is a wife, mother, veteran prosecutor, community volunteer, and a long-time resident of St. Mary’s County. She resides in the County with her husband, Ben, their two children, Cam and Nora and their two dogs, Samantha and Mesa.
